Deefa & Gromit , are 5 year old Border
Collie sisters, owned by Serena. Gromit suffers from lameness and both dogs
were a little overweight, so Serena decided to bring them both swimming.
Gromit loved it right from the start, but Deefa took a while to get used
to it. She doesn't love it like Gromit, but is still happy to swim around.
Gromit's lameness is 'vastly improved' according to Serena and both dogs
have lost some weight. Gromit likes to get Serena involved by placing her
toy on the side of the pool to throw again.

Tyson, aged 4, is an assistance dog for Madeline. Originally, Madeline's pet dog, Tyson has now worked for her for a while, putting washing into the machine, picking items up that she has dropped, etc, but he has now been diagnosed with severe Hip Dysplasia. The specialist wants to replace one of his hips, but has said he should lose 4 kgs first. As you can see from the photo on the poolside, he is not a fat Labrador. However, Labradors, as with all breeds of dog, should be kept slim, particularly if they have joint problems. It is vital that Tyson is at optimum weight before he undergoes this major surgery. He loves swimming and not only burns calories, but is also building up very strong muscles around his hip joints, which will also help his post-op recovery.

Max is owned by Tracey. He is a German Shepherd who started swimming with us at a yr old, having been swimming at another pool straight after surgery on Elbow Dysplasia. He is doing extremely well, and loves swimming for toys, en jo ying the space to stretch out in the pool. (Oct 2006)

Bracken is a 3 yr old Golden Retriever owned by Geraldine & Clive. Bracken ruptured his left Cruciate Ligament and has undergone TPLO surgery. He is recovering extremely well, and thoroughly en jo ys his swims. (Oct 2006)

Sonny is a 2 yr old Labrador owned by Hannah & John. He has been swimming with us for about a year, initially to help him recover from Elbow Dysplasia surgery, but now for general fitness, and because he just loves it. We can always rely on Sonny to give his all in the water. (Oct 2006)

Maddie is a 5 yr old Rottweiller owned by Lou & Pete and is one of the sopiest dogs going. She is very laid-back, but it's fair to say, not a big fan of swimming. She does as she's asked and swims for us, but we are not able to get her to play with toys in the pool. However, although it's not her favourite game, it may be helping a hip problem that she has. She does seem to like posing for the camera though! (Oct 2006)

BJ is a 6 yr old Border Collie owned by Jo & Brian. He is an extremely enthusiastic dog en jo ying agility with Brian and playing with their other dogs, amongst other activities. BJ has taken to swimming extremely well, which is contributing to a fast recovery from recent Cruciate Ligament surgery. (Oct 2006)

Cindy, Bonny, Pippa & Louie are owned by Lorraine & Tom. They were once offered a biscuit or a swim, before leaving home. They ran past the biscuits to the front door to come swimming. They went straight to the biscuits when they got home though!. They all love swimming and all have their favourite toys, which they sometimes try to take home with them! (Oct 2006) |
